Gong Cha | Getting to know Bubble Tea

GONG CHA

EDISON, NJ

It didn't take too long to figure out where my new go-to bubble tea spot was going to be. I was so happy to discover the opening of Gong Cha in Edison, New Jersey and try some of the items on their Top 10 menu. First, let's go over the logistics.

Logistics

The store is one in a strip of stores so parking is going to be a breeze. Their store front was easy to locate and the inside is absolutely beautiful and clean. They can accommodate the person on the go or someone to get some work done while sipping on some bubble tea. The staff was very friendly and took the time to see what my taste buds enjoyed to suggest a few items on the menu I'd like. Let's be honest, their customer service was awesome.

Drinks

I know my summer favorite is going to be the Lemon Ai-Yu with White Pearls. If you're a fan of lemonade, this is their spin on it with white pearls on the bottom that are sweeter than your traditional bubbles. As you're sipping away, you'll be sure to find some minute lemon pieces and jelly that gives you a great contrast to the texture.

*tip: Be sure to mix it well before taking your first sip to incorporate all of the ingredients!

If you like Early Grey, then Earl Grey Milk Tea with 3 J's is going to be your drink of choice. Again, you have the variation of texture with not only the pudding jelly but the earl grey one too. It wouldn't be bubble without your traditional bubbles on the bottom as well!

The underdog for me was the Milk Foam Green Tea. I'm a daily green tea drinker however they brought it to the next level. The part that fascinated me was the thick milk foam on the top. The green tea was topped with about a one inch layer of the milk foam that slowly starts to incorporate as you swirl the drink. Normally, the milk foam is flavorless however it reminded of a whipped version of cream cheese. It's sweet yet a little salty and pairs well with the green tea below. I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy this one but the girls in the store knew this one was going to be crowd favorite.

Overall

This is going to be a frequent stop for my not just over the summer but year-round. I like how you can customize the sugar for your drink (regular, 70% sugar) to what your preference is. If there were any other changes you wanted to make (Ice, tapioca, etc) the employees took the time to craft the drink to the individual. Crafting the drink to the customer is what makes the store stand out to me and why I'll be returning soon for another delicious drink!
