Homemade Tomato Sauce with San Marzano Tomatoes

Whether it's stuffed shells or pasta, this thick tomato sauce with basil is a great complimentary sauce.

What You'll Need

  • 2 tbsp. olive oil

  • 2 x 28 oz. canned peeled tomatoes

  • 1 med. yellow onion

  • 4 cloves of garlic

  • 1 tbsp. red chili flakes

  • 1 tsp. kosher salt

  • 1 tsp. black pepper

  • 1 tbsp. sugar

  • 1 basil stem

  • 1/2 c. grated parmesan cheese

  • 1 c. water

  1. Place a large pot on medium-high heat.

  2. Add in your onions and garlic. Mix until it's translucent.

3. Add in the tomatoes. Crush the individual tomato and pour in the remaining liquid.

4. Stir.

5. Add in the red chili flake.

6. Add an entire stem of basil and the grated parmesan cheese.

7. Turn the heat down to simmer and place the lid on top.

8. Simmer for one hour and the tomato sauce will have reduced to a thick sauce.
